Sleep Issues ... Duh

So Timmy will be 2 weeks old tomorrow. I didn't expect him to sleep more than a few hours at a time and I honestly don't REALLY mind the fact that I won't get a good night sleep for a while. But he has a weird pattern that is frustrating. He'll eat every 3 hours all day long; sometimes he'll stay awake between feedings, most of the time he'll sleep. Almost always he'll be very happy. Then for a three hour stretch between 8pm and 12am, he will be insatiable. Last night, he ate FOUR times between 9 and 12. Eating that much of course makes him gassy and fussy. Then he bombs out his diapers and we change him, which wakes him up and then... he's obviously hungry again. Once he eventually goes to sleep, he'll sleep for 3 or 4 hour increments the rest of the night (for the most part).

Right now it's really not so terrible because I just end up sleeping in until 9am or so and get about 6 or 7 hours total. But when I have to wake up at 6am starting Monday, that could be a little rough. I keep hoping that he'll just grow out of it, but I don't know... maybe it's just his thing.

Ahh, the things we do for those precious little babies.

wow- four times! are you sure he's really hungry or does he just want to something to suck on? Jacob always has fussy time at night and I try to distract him with a bath or toys or I jsut cuddle him, then if he really won't stop crying, I give in and feed him. But I'm sure you know what timmy wants the best since you're his mom!
Don't worry too much, at least for Jacob, his patterns kept changing every week or two.

It's called "cluster feeding" and it's very normal. Here's a website about it: http://www.kellymom.com/babyconcerns/fussy-evening.html
