All swaddled up like a baby burrito... he couldn't fall asleep without being all tucked in. So every nap, and every night, we swaddled him.
About a month ago, we tried to "wean" him off the swaddle. At naptime, we would leave an arm out, then both arms out, but his naps were about 45 minutes shorter when his arms were free, so we went back to swaddling. Last Wednesday, his naps were only 35 minutes even though he was swaddled, so we decided to make a clean break.
Surprisingly, Timmy did very well. A coupe of nights we have had to go give him his pacifier once before we go to bed, but he still sleeps from about 7pm to 6:30am, waking up once around 3 or 4 to eat.
He takes full advantage of his new found freedom, sprawling out, taking up most of the crib.
How the heck do you keep their little hands warm? His whole body and head will be warm, but his hands are frozen when I go into get him in the middle of the night.

I'm amazed you managed to keep him swaddled for this long! Charlie learned at around 3 months to break out of the swaddle from the bottom up, so that I found him a couple of times in the morning with the blanket wrapped loosely around his neck. Talk about heart-stopping! Needless to say, that was the end of swaddling for us.
I'm not sure about the cold hands problem. Sometimes I find Charlie with cold feet when he's not wearing footie pajamas, but not cold hands. What temperature do you keep the room at?
The hands just get cold, unfortunately. I remember they made newborn PJs that had little mit things that folded down over the hands, but I'm sure they don't make them for bigger boys.
Hanah, scary! Timmy figured out how to get out of the swaddle about a month ago (we only did his arms), but he still couldn't fall asleep without it. I got sick of redoing it 5 times each night, so that's why we stopped. Those Aden & Anais blankets are awesome for big babies though!
We keep the temp at 72, maybe that's too cold?
And Trannyhead, the baby gap PJs (First Favorites) have those built-in mits in all of their sizes, I think up to 18 months. But not having his hands free would piss him off more than cold hands I think. And, um, you get to use those itty bitty newborn PJs again so soon!
What a cutie! All of my babies loved their burritos.
