It's so strange to be interviewing law students for summer associate jobs.
For one thing, it's been 4 years since I was in their shoes, even though I'm only a first year now. I don't think it's possible for circumstances to change more than they have in that time. Gone are the days of offers at the callback interview and the class size will probably be less than half of what it was my year.
It's also readily apparent that the firm is more selective than when I was interviewing. After looking at the resumes of my interviewees, I know without a doubt that I would not be offered this job if I were interviewing right now.
Just another frozen moment in time where I look back and marvel at the serendipitous timing of everything in the past few years of my life.

I think about this one often - I KNOW I wouldn't even have gotten an interview with my firm if I were in law school now -- we've cut the number of schools we interview at by about a third. It makes me sad. Because I KNOW that students graduating from my school make damn good lawyers, and alums from my school have a freaking fanastic track record at my firm, but in this economy, pedigree wins. Lucky for us, but I sure do hope things turn around for those still in law school.
