Between two doctors, internet due-date-calculators and an ultrasound, three different due dates have been thrown around. Today I finally saw my normal doctor and she picked one that she said we should use (the ultrasound date) ... so my due date is technically December 26th.
They tell you that a due date should actually be a 4-week window: up to two weeks before and up to two weeks after the due date. Well, two weeks before is the date of my last final and two weeks after is a few days before spring semester classes will start (not that I will necessarily be going to school that week). I mean, I'm kind of on a tight schedule! ;) Of course I want the baby to be healthy and only come when he or she is ready, but I will be secretly hoping for the day after my last final. If somehow the baby is born on December 26th, you can bet every birthday present will involve shopping the after-Christmas sales for the rest of their life!
In addition to giving me one due date, the appointment today also quashed my pregnancy anxiety. I'm still at the point where I half-expect each time I go to the doctor that someone will say, "are you crazy?! You're not pregnant!" Then I am reassured when I see the baby and the heartbeat. I think you need extra reassurance in the beginning because you can't feel the baby move and you can't really see the difference in your body (for all I know, my stomach is getting fatter because of these firm dinners and not working out). Now I am feeling better about telling my family this weekend ... until I start thinking about the fact that I will have to be there when they react to the news.
