Life is Precious

A couple days ago, the wife of a student at my school had a stroke (apparently an AVM rupture?), collapsed in her apartment and was rushed to the hospital where she had 13 hours of brain surgery and now is in a medically induced coma so that her body can heal. (all the news I have is just from what I have read, so hopefully I'm not misrepresenting anything; the story of what happened from people close to the situation is in all of the links in this post)

I don't know her personally, but our school is a very tight-knit community, so Tuesday morning, many of my friends on facebook had joined a group called "Praying for Katherine Wolf" and another similar group. Once I read what had happened, I was devastated. She is a beautiful, and apparently extremely nice, woman, mother to a gorgeous 6-month old boy and her husband is graduating from law school in a few weeks.
Now her family and friends are praying for her survival and full recovery ... with such an intensive brain surgery, there is a likelihood of severe damage. Apparently the doctors now think that she is not completely paralyzed, so that is a blessing. While most of Jay's friends are getting ready to graduate, he is just focused on making sure his wife survives and their young family can enjoy the rest of their lives together. I can't even begin to imagine. Hearing about something like this makes so many things in my life seem so trivial and makes me really stop and think about what I am grateful for. I have my health (for the most part) and a husband I love dearly, faithful friends and devoted family. Really, I think that is all that matters.

I hope and pray that Katherine has a complete recovery and that her family can go back to normal life soon. I am sure it will take a lot of time, love and prayer. If there is anyone reading this, here is another website for more information and a link to donate money to help pay for their medical bills.
